Marathon County unveils do-it-yourself bike repair stations

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -- Bike riders in the Wausau area have something new - repair stations along the trails.

Four do-it-yourself stops with tools and an air pump were unveiled Wednesday.

The president of Bike Fixtations grew up in the Wausau area. He proposed the change to Marathon County and bike advocates liked the idea.

Community leaders say the repair stations are the latest improvements in a growing bike culture in central Wisconsin.

"Anybody can use them," said public health educator Aaron Ruff. "From your avid road bicyclist to mountain biker to Mom and Dad and the kids, anybody can stop at these locations and pump up their tires, adjust their seat, tighten up their brakes."

The stations are located at the Mountain Bay trailhead in Weston, River park in Rothschild, the Aspirus YMCA in Weston and Nine Mile Forest in Wausau.
