Athlete of the Week: Victor Kizewski, SPASH

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) -- Victor Kizewski is a high school junior with a 3.8 GPA. And for him, the football field is like a second home.

"I love the intensity," Kizewski said. "I love hitting people... I just love football."

The passion combined with Kizewski's unmatched work ethic isn't lost on his head coach.

"He loves the game of football," SPASH head coach Pete McAdams said. "He's a no-nonsense kind of guy. He goes hard every play. He just does his thing and gets off the field.

"When you have guys like that, they're fun to coach," McAdams said.

It became even more fun last Friday in SPASH's season opener.

After D.C. Everest scored to take a 12-9 lead with just over a minute remaining, Kizewski returned the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to set the Panthers up with great field position. Then, a few plays later, he found the end zone, scoring what would end up being the game-winning touchdown.

"It was pretty crazy," Kizewski said, smiling. "All my teammates rushed over to me. We were just happy and relieved that we got the touchdown.

"It feels great," he continued. "That was the first time that happened, and hopefully there's more to come."

It may very well happen again. McAdams said that this performance was no fluke.

"It's not really a surprise," McAdams said. "He has the ability to do those things and there's a lot of good guys around him who make him successful."

The junior has his sights set on the next level, but right now his focus is on nothing more than the next challenge.

"My goal is definitely to play college football," he said. "But right now I'm just worried about the next game. We're 1-0 and we want to be 2-0. So I'm just worried about next week."

Kizewski and the Panthers host Wausau West this Friday night. The Warriors are also 1-0, and are the number five team in our Newsline 9 Power 9.
