SHAWANO (WAOW) – A male suspect in what authorities called an attempted abduction near Wittenberg remained at large Thursday, the Shawano County Sheriff's Department said.
A 14-year-old girl told investigators she was walking along a road between two corn fields in the Town of Birnamwood near US 45 on Wednesday about 1 p.m. when a male in his late teens came out of a field and attempted to grab her, the agency said. The girl was able to "break free" and return to a home.
The male ran away, and he was described as being about 6-foot-2 and wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans with holes in them and white tennis shoes.
Sgt. Gordon Kowaleski said Thursday that a young man who investigators ruled a person of interest in the case was interviewed and it was determined he had nothing to do with the incident.
“At this time, we don't know who the person is. We have the description and that is what we are working on,” he said.
The incident occurred in an area where the girl would normally walk in her routine at a nearby farm, the investigator said.
