School schedules shifting in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Changes are coming to Wausau's elementary schools that will streamline the school day.

All 12 schools will now start at 8:30 a.m.

District leaders say that means five schools will start earlier than last year, and seven will start later.

Each school's day will now end at 3:30 p.m.

The change means all schools now will be in session for the same amount of time, with some schools picking up five minutes more of classroom time.

"Students are only in the classroom so much and we want to capture every valuable minute that we have and certainly five minutes less isn't going to help," said the district's chief finance officer Bob Tess.

District leaders say the move will also increase busing efficiency, saving them at least $50,000.

Wausau elementary schools begin Tuesday.
