New students at UW-Stevens Point participate in longtime tradition

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - New students at UW-Stevens Point are officially Pointers after participating in a longtime tradition.

The university's convocation ceremony was Friday. New students touched the replica of the iconic cupola.

Faculty and staff also spoke to students at the ceremony about making a mark on the campus during their time at UWSP. Students say they're already excited to be part of the university's history.

"It was pretty cool,” said Jake Sawiers of Elkhorn. “I got to learn tradition of Stevens Point so it was pretty interesting."

Students will repeat the ritual of touching the cupola when they graduate. The first day of classes is Tuesday.
