UWSP trades in traditional game day programs for digital ones

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- The UW-Stevens Point athletic department is going green. Starting this year, the athletic department will trade in traditional game day programs for digital ones.

At every event, signs will be posted around the fields with QR Codes and a special URL. All a fan has to do is use their smart phone to scan the code or enter the URL into their browser. Once they do that, they have access to updated game information, stats and player information at the touch of a finger.

"We just wanted to do one thing we could to help the going green cause,” explained Mitch Capelle, assistant athletic director for media relations. “This was one thing we thought of. We utilize the smart phone technology that fans come to games with in their pockets and that's one way we could do that."

Capelle says there will be some paper programs available at larger events. That will accommodate those fans that don't have smart phones.
