Despite the wet weather, Potato Fest draws hundreds
RHINELANDER (WAOW) -- Central Wisconsin is bracing for more rain this holiday weekend. But, not everyone is letting the wet weather ruin their fun.
Hundreds of people attended Potato Fest in downtown Rhinelander Saturday. The rain held off while children participated in potato sack races and basketball games. When the wet weather moved in, people found themselves underneath large tents enjoying potato fries and staying dry. Organizers say it's all about adapting to mother nature.
“When it's raining, there's tents in areas people can go to and once it gets dry we can proceed with the things that truly need to be outdoors," said Maggie Steffen, event organizer. “ There's enough going on that weather's not really going to deter anyone from having a good time.”
This August, it's rained about 7 inches in Wausau. Nearly an inch of rain fell on Thursday and Friday. Overall, Newsline 9 meteorologists say rain totals for the summer are about 3 inches above average.
