Wausau School Board approves proposal to add more resource officers
WAOW (WAUSAU) -- Wausau's school board approved a proposal Monday to add more resource officers to the John Muir and Horace Mann Middle Schools.
Resource officers are already in place at both Wausau East and Wausau West High School. Meanwhile, the two middle schools have to share one officer.
The Wausau School District's director of pupil services, Jeff Lindell, said that he believes students enrolled in the schools would benefit from additional security. "We have 1,700 kids combined to our two middle schools," explained Lindell. "That's a lot of kids for one school resource officer."
School leaders say the new officers may also patrol area elementary schools.
Before the proposal can be finalized, the City of Wausau must grant the school district approval.
