WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- The mother of a 12-year-old Waukesha girl stabbed 19 times says her daughter's will to live is the reason she found the strength to crawl out of some woods to get help following the attack.
Stacie Leutner and her husband are talking with ABC's David Muir about their daughter and her ordeal last May following a sleepover with two classmates. Prosecutors say the classmates, also 12, plotted for months before they lured the victim into some woods and stabbed her. They told investigators they hoped it would please a fictional character, Slender Man.
Leutner says when she first saw her daughter after the attack in the emergency room, she was as pale as a ghost, was terrified, crying and couldn't breathe. Leutner told her daughter she would be OK, but could see she was covered with stab wounds.
