Wausau Fire Department wears pink to raise awareness
WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The Wausau Fire Department wants to raise awareness about breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every day this month, Wausau's firefighters will be dressed in pink.
The fire department had custom pink t-shirts made.
Workers say the new gear raises a lot of questions and plenty of awareness.
Marlon Marks, a firefighter and paramedic at the Wausau Fire Department, came up with the plan to dress in pink.
Marks hopes raising awareness will encourage people schedule cancer screenings and to support cancer victims.
"You think this isn't going to happen to me, but it can. And so many people are affected by [cancer]. And not just breast cancer," says Marks. "We just try to get out and know that people are affected by this and your thoughts are with us."
The Fire Department's pink t-shirts are on sale at station one. They cost $15.
Money raised from the sale of the t-shirts goes to local breast cancer patients and organizations.
