MOSINEE (WAOW) - Nearly 100 central Wisconsin veterans are spending Monday touring the monuments that were built in their honor in Washington, D.C.
The travel of World War II, Korean and Vietnam vets is part of a program called "Never Forgotten Honor Flight."
"It honors the vets for the sacrifice that they made. It gives a lot of the combat veterans a chance to talk about things they've never talked to their family about because they're among their own kind," said organizer Jim Coleman.
So far, nearly 1,700 veterans have taken the trip, which departs Central Wisconsin Airport four times a year.
Each trip costs about $75,000 and all funds are privately raised, organizers said.
The plane that left Monday morning is to return about 10 p.m.
