VESPER (WAOW) -- A Vesper woman has a Halloween hobby. She turns garages and barns into spook houses.
It started as a way to give her children something to do on Halloween.
"When my kids were little they thought they were too old to go trick-or-treating so we decided we were going to start something in our basement," explained Dawn Armagost, the Haunted Barn creator.
Armagost transformed her basement into a little spook house for her kids and neighbors. She was hooked.
Armagost now turns barns and garages into haunted houses.
This year's theme is a psychiatric ward. She said the decorations required a lot of work, but it will be worth it.
The barn is a maze of dark hallways and dead ends.
Touring Armagost's spooky barn is free, but she asks visitors for a donation that will go towards Lauren Adamski's surgeries.
The two-year-old was severely injured during a freak accident last March.
"She spent a month in the hospital with multiple skull fractures and too many facial fractures to count," said Mandy Adamski, Lauren's mother.
Doctor's feared Adamski wouldn't make it, but her mother says she's a strong little girl.
Lauren needs surgery to repair nerves in her face and some muscles in her eyes. Her mom says she was shocked when she heard the haunted barn would raise money for her daughter.
"I got a phone call about this and I was like, absolutely. I didn't even know they had this out there."
Lauren's first reconstructive surgery is planned in November.
The Vesper Haunted Barn runs October 31st and November 1st. Tours begin at 6 p.m. and finish when people quit showing up. In past years, the last person went through 12:30 a.m.
The house is geared towards teenagers and adults.
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
