UPDATE: Passionate Packers fan reflects on trip to Lambeau
GREEN BAY (WAOW) -- An 80-year-old Wausau Packers fan took her first trip to Lambeau Field Sunday.
Friends say, Barttelt hasn't missed a Packers game in 20 years, but she has only watched games at home and in bars.
Benedictine Living Community, where Barttelt live, decided to send their favorite Packers fan to Lambeau Field.
"She's really excited," said Carrie Becker, an employee at Benedictine Living Community. "You can't really tell by looking at her, but that's Phyllis for you."
Barttelt says, she was too excited to sleep.
"I woke up at four [this morning]," Barttelt said. "I couldn't sleep."
But once Barttelt got to Lambeau, she was wide awake and ready to share her Packers pride.
Becker said Packers fans wanted their picture taken with Barttelt.
The Packers took an early lead. Barttelt cheered for her team right away.
Barttelt said the Packers won because she "told Rodgers if he didn't win, [she would] kick him."
Halfway through the game, the Packers fan decided it was time to leave.
"My husband isn't with me," explained teary-eyed Barttelt.
Barttelt lost her husband about a year ago. She said the game reminded her of watching games with her husband. Barttelt got emotional when she thought about him not being there with her and asked to leave early.
Even though she left the game early, Barttelt says she is glad she had the opportunity to watch her favorite team begin their victorious game.
As long as Aaron Rodgers plays, Barttelt says she would love to come back again.
Barttelt enjoyed a cold beer at the game and picked up several souvenirs to remember the day.
Newsline 9 caught up with Barttelt again on Monday.
Barttelt said her favorite part of her first trip to Lambeau was being in the crowd of fans.
"I ddidn'teven see when the game started because just like that the whole thing was plum full of people," said Barttelt. "It took my breath away."
Barttelt said she met a man who gave her a Packers pin. She said his name is Robert, and she would love to get in contact with him.
