Marathon County Crime Stoppers: Hit and run bridge damage

ATHENS (WAOW) - Marathon County Crime Stoppers is looking for a hit and run driver who crashed into a bridge near Athens and jeopardized public safety.

Investigators said the crash happened Oct. 7 on Townline Road, the driver cleaned up any telltale signs of the vehicle and he took off, leaving a guardrail dangling from the bridge.

"It was obviously a large vehicle and it struck the bridge hard enough to do a lot of damage," said Capt. Dale Wisnewski of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said  the bridge was closed  until experts inspected it and determined it was safe for travelers to use.

Wisnewski said the crash caused thousands of dollars in damage to the bridge.
