Four Taliban killed in failed attack

Posted:

Police in the Afghan capital say four Taliban militants have been killed after a failed assault on a compound housing foreign workers.

It's the second attack on a foreign compound in Kabul in recent days. Two Afghan security guards and three attackers were killed in a suicide attack Monday.

In the latest attack, police say one militant died when he detonated a vehicle packed with explosives near the gate of the Green Village compound in eastern Kabul. Police killed the other three attackers in a shootout.

Insurgent activity has intensified in Afghanistan in the months since President Ashraf Ghani was inaugurated as president and ahead of the withdrawal of foreign forces at the end of the year.
