"Empty Bowls" raises thousands of dollars for local food bank
ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) -- People lined up for a bowl of soup at the Rothschild Pavilion Saturday for the seventh annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.
For $10 people got a bowl of soup, some bread, a fresh cookie and got to pick out a handmade bowl to take home.
Organizers say it took more than fifty volunteers to put on this year's event.
Aidyn Laurynz, the marketing director at The Neighbors' Place in Wausau, said the crowd was bigger than ever.
"[The line] went out the door for a little while. So there was about a half-hour to hour where people were waiting outside to get in," explained Laurynz. "We had two lines that were stretching from the door all the way around to the soup."
Organizers estimate around $20,000 was raised at the event. The money goes to fill the food bank at the Neighbors' Place.
