Sierra Leone doctors strike for better Ebola care

The association of junior doctors in Sierra Leone is on strike in order to demand better treatment for health workers who become infected with Ebola.

The group has asked the government to make sure life-saving equipment, like dialysis machines, are available to treat infected doctors. The government has promised that a special treatment unit for health care workers will open soon and will be fully equipped.

Ten of the 11 Sierra Leonean doctors who have become infected have died.

Health Ministry spokesman Jonathan Abass Kamara said the junior doctors began their strike Monday. They will decide later in the day whether to extend the action.

Ebola has killed about 6,200 people, including hundreds of health workers. The disease is spreading fastest in Sierra Leone.
