Michigan man receives almost 2,000 Christmas cards

(CNN) – A Michigan man's mailbox is stuffed this holiday season. So far, he's been the recipient of nearly 2,000 Christmas cards – each one making his holiday brighter.

This year Donnie Whipple is almost running out of space to hang his Christmas cards.

It all began when he didn't receive one card from his uncle – the card he looks forward to opening each Christmas.

That's when his sister Spring asked twenty of her friends on Facebook to send Donnie a few cards.

In just days, 20 cards turned into nearly 2,000.

Their mail carrier showed this bunch addressed to Donnie on what she calls a 'slow day.'

In 30 years, she says she's never delivered this amount of cards to anybody.

Spring says Donnie spends just as much time opening these cards as he did his first.

Some favorites share a little story about the sender usually without a return address from a perfect stranger.

As of now, Donnie says he has new friends from 46 states and from as far away as England.

As busy as their family is, Spring says they spend about four hours each day talking about the cards and what they mean.

For Donnie, he can't say thank you enough to everyone who brought him Christmas early.
