(WAOW)-- You may remember this years Jefferson Award winner, Rachel Ley.
A 17 year old Stevens Point girl who has dedicated many hours to helping people.
She spends her free time giving children's books to parents to read to their newborns with her foundation, Literacy for Little Ones.
Now, Ley has being recognized with a national service award, the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes.
Each year 25 young people who are doing good for their communities are chosen from all across America.
She received a $5,000 scholarship.
"It's super exciting to win a national award," commented Ley. "The great thing about winning another national award is that more press is on Literacy for Little Ones and more people find out about the great things the program is doing ."
Literacy for Little Ones provides book packages to 10 hospitals throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nicaragua.
At those hospitals every family with a new baby is able to receive some books.
