MARATHON (WAOW) - The search is on for thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of prized ginseng from a business near Marathon.
"On the evening of Dec. 18 or into the early morning hours of the 19th, someone kicked in a door and stole six boxes of very valuable, high grade ginseng from the Ginseng & Herb Co-Op. It had just been delivered that day for processing and it appears they knew what they were after," said Lt. Ryan Weber of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators say the stolen boxes were labeled SCB indicating they contained "Scotch Creek Big" type of ginseng.
The root is valued for its medicinal qualities and sold mostly overseas to China.
In addition to the ginseng theft, a security surveillance system was also stolen - a Nuvico Model ED-C400 4 Channel hard drive and Hanns-G Model HL163 15 inch monitor.
Marathon County Crime Stoppers needs your help to solve this crime and offers a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
Ginseng & Herb Co-Op is offering an additional $1,000 reward.
