MARSHFIELD (WAOW) - Janice Moen of Marshfield is the Jefferson Award winner for January.
Since the late 1970s, Moen has served as a medical foster parent.
She has raised five children, and continues to volunteer her time with several organizations that serve people with disabilities.
In 2004, Moen adopted her daughter Autumn, who nominated her for the Jefferson Award and wrote glowingly about her mother's volunteer activities.
"She doesn't even realize she is doing it. When you do it so often, it becomes habit and it is who you are," said Autumn Moen.
Her mother coordinates a huge party at the Wisconsin Special Olympic Games in Stevens Point each year, grants wishes to the seriously ill through the Make A Wish program and is involved in the Shining Stars monthly dances for people who are developmentally disabled in the Marshfield area.
Moen says she loves her volunteer work.
"I think its important to be part of giving to people. I get far more back than I give," said Moen.
