(WAOW) – The National Football League is investigating whether the New England Patriots used under-inflated footballs in Sunday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts, according to a tweet from SportsCenter.

If it's true, the Patriots could lose future draft picks, according to the tweet, which sources WTHR-TV in Indianapolis.

An NFL spokesperson told reporter Ian Rapoport that a ball was taken off the field during the game and was removed from circulation, according to an article on

The article states the NFL rulebook says game balls must be inflated with between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds of air.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said, “I think I've heard it all at this point,” during a Monday radio appearance.

“Deflating balls is presumably done to increase grip,” the article said. Wet weather played a factor in the game Sunday.

No word on when the NFL will respond to the claims.

The Patriots defeated the Colts 45-7 and will face the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl in Arizona.
