Athlete of the Week: Makayla Scheuer

The Marshfield girls basketball team is ranked second in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and Makayla Scheuer is a big part of the reason why.

When the Tigers took on unbeaten D.C. Everest Scheuer rose to the challenge, making half of the Tigers eight 3-pointers and going 4-for-5 from behind the arc. However, she is humble when it comes to her success.

"It feels good, but honestly a lot of it is because of my teammates. They get me open and it doesn't matter whose doing good we all just want to win that's our goal," Scheuer said.

Her head coach, Heidi Michaelis, has been able to see her confidence and talent develop.

"She is someone that since she's been little I've enjoyed watching her," Michaelis said. "She plays with a lot of heart. She just gets after it and I think anyone that has a chance or has had the chance to coach her appreciates what she brings to this team, which is just a tenacity and a competitiveness that not all kids really come with."

Scheuer gets her motivation from her teammates, coaches, and her Dad.

"Ever since I was little he has always like helped me and like has always asked me if I want to go and shoot. Like he's always like pushed me, he's always told me I could do it," Scheuer said.

Despite Scheuer's performance, Marshfield lost to D.C. Everest 50-40 and is now 11-3 on the season.

Scheuer and her teammates are working hard toward a successful rest of the season.

"I think we're going to have a good outcome. Coaches are putting us through tough workouts and keep pushing us to do our best."
