Portage Co. Crime Stoppers: Gas, business theft

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- In recent weeks thieves have stolen gas from vehicles parked in an industrial area in Stevens Point.

Now, it appears they may have stepped up their criminal activity by breaking into a business.

Sometime after the close of business last Friday and Monday morning, someone broke into the Point Supply on Patch Street in Stevens Point.

"Forced their way and made their way to the office and found the safe and then worked on the safe and ended up stealing the contents of the safe,” said Sgt. Tony Babl.

Babl says it appears the thieves wanted only cash and didn't take anything else from the restaurant supply company.

“There was a large amount of money taken from the safe, but its funny nothing else was taken from the building though,” Babl said.

Investigators say video surveillance cameras from nearby businesses and the safe which the thief left behind are providing some clues.

"We are processing that for fingerprints early Saturday morning at about 1:30 in the morning there were two suspicious people seen in this area. Not sure if they are involved in the burglary but it does narrow down the time frame a little bit."

Investigators also want to talk to the owner of this red pick up truck with a silver tailgate. Security cameras captured the truck parked in the back of the Point Supply on Friday.

“We are not saying they did anything but we want to talk with them to see if they noticed anything unusual.”
