Food Fair on Thursday highlights local cuisine

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A food fair taking place Thursday celebrates food businesses and farmers with the main attraction being a potato bar, organizers say.

The event, at Stevens Point Area Senior High and organized by Central Rivers Farmshed, features more than 40 exhibits showing off products grown and produced in the area.

"The local food fair is really a celebration of the food businesses and farms in our region, and we like to introduce people to them, have people start building relationships and looking forward to buying food from these businesses," said Layne Cozzolino, the executive director of Central Rivers Farmshed.

About 700 guests are expected to attend, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The free baked potato bar will feature three basic toppings of butter, sour cream and cheese. Nineteen other gourmet toppings prepared locally cost $2 each.

The event is free and open to the public.
