MARSHFIELD (WAOW) - A Marshfield woman who loves history is the Jefferson Award winner for February.
Inspired by her father to volunteer, Shirley Mook began using two weeks of her vacation time from work to volunteer to cook at a boys wrestling camp.
That act of generosity continued for 27 years.
Later, Mook turned her love of history into another way to volunteer in the community.
She started working on preserving historic buildings and volunteering at the museum.
Several days a week now, Mook is at the "Lest We Forget" exhibit at the Marshfield Public Library.
The exhibit is filled with displays and memorials to the men and women in Wood County who served in the military.
Mook says she loves digging into the past.
"You meet such wonderful people and it is so important for us to preserve those memories," Mook said.
Mook plans to continue her efforts to preserve Marshfield's history for future generations.
Warmer and more humid this weekend with a shower possible in parts of the area.
