15 vehicles involved in New Jersey wreck; 1 person dead
CRANBURY, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey highway pileup involving 15 or more vehicles including box trucks and a bus has left at least one person dead and several others injured.
The accident occurred Monday night during a mix of rain and snow flurries and below-freezing temperatures on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury, a township just southwest of New York City. The vehicles involved in the crash include several cars, four tractor-trailers, two box trucks and a fully loaded bus.
The agency that manages the turnpike says a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the roadway near a service area.
Southbound lanes of the turnpike have been closed in the area.
State police say many people were injured.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
The 148-mile turnpike was the first toll road in the state when it opened in 1951.
