McCarthy gives up play-calling duties, announces coaching changes

(WBAY) -- Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy is relinquishing his play-calling duties.

During a news conference, McCarthy announced that newly-promoted associate head coach Tom Clements will take over the play-calling responsibility.

McCarthy said it will allow him to balance his time between offense, defense and special teams.

“Reason to do this is about winning championships. That never changes. I think this is the time to do it. Think our staff is ready,” said McCarthy.

In addition to Clements, McCarthy announced other staff moves:

Edgar Bennett — offensive coordinator

Alex Van Pelt — quarterbacks/wide receivers coach

Mike Solari — assistant offensive line coach

Jerry Montgomery — defensive front assistant

Ron Zook– special teams coordinator

Jason Simmons — assistant special teams coach
