CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) -- Police say snow falling off the roof of a Boston-area ice rink buried a man and pummeled four other people as they were walking on a path nearby.
A rink employee says he helped dig out the man before firefighters arrived to free him. Authorities say two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation but no one was seriously hurt.
Police spokesman Jeremy Warnick says the five were walking on a path between the Simoni Ice Skating Arena in Cambridge and sports playing fields when they had the "unfortunate luck" of being in the spot where the snow fell off the roof Wednesday night.
Winter storms over the last four weeks have brought up to 8 feet of snow and sub-freezing temperatures to the area.
