Group wants to curb stray cat population in Wausau area
WESTON (WAOW) -
A group in Wausau is hoping to curb the stray cat population in the area.
They proposed "TNR" to the Town of Weston Public Safety Committee Monday night.
That stands for "trap, neuter and return."
The Community Cat Action Team of Wausau wants to spay and neuter stray and feral cats to help lower the number of felines in the Wausau area.
"We've applied for 501-C3 status as a non-profit so we can continue to look for additional sources of funding and we are looking to get the program operational," said Amie Leonoff of the Wausau Community Cat Action Team. "We have volunteers obviously already ready and we're always looking for more."
The program would mean several Weston ordinances would be lifted so people in the program could have more cats on their property.
Once the cats are spayed or neutered, they would be returned to the area they came from.
