Police arrive at Wisconsin Capitol for right-to-work debate

Posted:
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Two busloads of police officers are on hand at the Wisconsin state Capitol in advance of a rally and public hearing on a right-to-work bill.

Republicans have put the right-to-work measure on a fast track and likely 2016 presidential candidate Gov. Scott Walker has said he will sign it into law.

The chairman of the Senate Labor Committee promises Tuesday's 9-hour hearing will be orderly and thoughtful.

The measure would prohibit companies from reaching labor agreements in which workers have to pay fees to unions as a condition of employment.

The AFL-CIO has taken out a permit for a Capitol rally it estimates will draw 800 people both Tuesday and Wednesday. Pro-union rallies four years ago drew as many as 100,000 people.
