State Sen. Petrowski says he's not convinced about right-to-work

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The only Republican state senator who voted against a right-to-work bill says he is not convinced that the law is a good idea.

Sen. Jerry Petrowski, of Marathon, said in a statement Wednesday that he was keeping his word in the past two elections not to support right-to-work.

Petrowski says he is "not convinced the supposed benefits of passing this bill will materialize and offset a potentially disruptive impact on our economy."

The Senate voted 17-15 to pass the bill with all other Republicans for it and Petrowski and all Democrats against it. The measure now heads to the Assembly, which plans to take it up next week.

Petrowski says, "I'm a Ronald Reagan Republican, and like President Reagan I was a union member for many years."
