Wisconsin elections board awaits direction on voter ID

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin state elections board says it is awaiting direction from the state Department of Justice about what comes next now that the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear a challenge to the state's voter identification law.

The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal appeals court to block implementation of the law for the April 7 election.

The law had been put on hold by the U.S. Supreme Court while it decided whether to hear a challenge. It decided Monday not to take the case with no comment.

That led to the ACLU filing its emergency motion.

The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board says in a statement on its website that it's waiting to get direction from DOJ in anticipation of future action by the federal appeals court.
