Former Toronto Mayor Ford undergoes surgery to remove tumor

Posted:

Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his abdomen.

Dan Jacobs, Ford's spokesman, said Monday doctors have removed the main mass of a cancerous tumor from his abdomen and says things are going well.

Ford was diagnosed with malignant liposarcoma last year, forcing him to quit his bid for re-election for mayor. He ran for his old seat in city council instead and won.

For has noted that it could put him out of commission for as long as four months.

Ford, whose admitted drug and alcohol abuse and outrageous behavior earned him international notoriety, was forced out of his mayoral re-election bid last September when doctors discovered his rare, aggressive malignant liposarcoma. He ran successfully for council instead.
