Turmoil in UK opposition party after election loss

Posted:

Britain's opposition Labour Party is struggling to regain its balance after suffering one of the worst elections in modern times. Shocked by the extent of the loss, leaders are trying to figure out how to rebuild the party and regain the trust of the public.

Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman appealed for calm on Monday, though she insisted everything would be up for consideration when the party holds its conference in September.

Harman said that "these are dark days for the Labour Party."

Party members will vote in September for a new leader to succeed Ed Miliband, who resigned following the election defeat.

Harman said the months leading to the vote will feature a "deeper and more fundamental debate about our future" than previous elections.
