Hearing resumes for girl accused of stabbing classmate
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- Defense attorneys for one of two Wisconsin girls charged with trying to kill a friend to please a mythical horror character are continuing their push to have the 13-year-old's case transferred to juvenile court.
A hearing resumed Wednesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court for the girl, who along with a 12-year-old friend, is accused of stabbing a classmate 19 times to gain favor with Slender Man, a fictitious character they believed could kill them or their families. Payton Leutner survived the attack at a Waukesha park last May.
The defense has asked a judge to declare unconstitutional the underlying law that put the case in adult court. Wisconsin law requires children as young as 10 to be charged as adults for some crimes.
