MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker's proposed $300 million cut to the University of Wisconsin System would be reduced by $50 million under changes to the plan endorsed Friday by Republicans who control the Legislature's budget-writing committee.
The Joint Finance Committee also planned on Friday to approve continuing a tuition freeze for two more years and do away with Walker's plan to give UW more independence from state laws and oversight.
