Wisconsin girl burned as baby hopes for new ear

After narrowly surviving a devastating fire, a girl from Western Wisconsin is still recovering from that tragic night. Now, she and her mom are hoping a surgery to repair the ear she lost will help with the healing.

Nine years ago, Chelsea Karper's childhood home in Sparta burned to the ground.

She says she clearly remembers fearing the fire had claimed her one-year-old daughter's life. But baby Brooke survived.

She spent two months in intensive care and another month after that in the burn unit.

To this day, she needs about three surgeries a year because her burn scars don't stretch with her growing body.

But there is still one more surgery Brooke hopes to get. Her family is using
GoFundMe.com account to help raise $8,500 for a new prosthetic ear.

"She's young and she's never had her right ear. She's never been 'one of the other kids' is how she sees it. She's never been 'like them' and to have the ear, I think it would really just boost her self esteem and her self image," said Chelsea Karper, Brooke's mom.

So far, more than $5,800 has been raised.
