Feingold: Campaign will focus on listening to residents

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Russ Feingold says his campaign to take back a U.S. Senate seat he lost in 2010 will focus on listening to Wisconsin residents.

Feingold received a standing ovation Friday night at the Wisconsin Democratic Party convention. It was his first public speaking appearance since announcing his candidacy. Feingold told the audience he would tour each of the state's 72 counties, listening to residents, to better understand the state.

The announcement of his candidacy last month set up a rematch with Republican Sen. Ron Johnson. Johnson defeated Feingold in 2010 by 5 points as part of the tea party Republican wave.

Earlier Friday, Johnson said he can break the trend and become the first Republican to win the election to the Senate in a presidential year in Wisconsin since 1980.
