Store owners accused of locking employee in storage box
MADISON (WKOW) -- Authorities say two Illinois men remain jailed, after they beat a man they employed, and held him hostage in a storage box at a Madison retail store for hours, after accusing the victim of stealing from their company.
Madison Police officials say 36-year old Firas Yasin and 38-year old Eyad Abdel Jalil face tentative charges of kidnapping, with the possibility of more, tentative charges being lodged.
Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says the men punched and choked the 21-year old employee of Freedom Wireless Partners Sunday at a retail store at 1203 North Sherman Avenue.
He says the men then placed the victim in a tool box. DeSpain says the victim was in the fetal position because of the small size of the box. DeSpain says the victim was in the box for several hours, and only escaped when his captors left the box unlocked at one point.
DeSpain says Yasin and Jalil maintain the victim stole from the company, and say, they did not harm the employee.
A court date to discuss bail for the suspects has yet to be scheduled.
