Jim Crace wins IMPAC Dublin literary prize for 'Harvest'

Posted:

British novelist Jim Crace has won one of the world's most lucrative book prizes for "Harvest," a novel about the destruction of an age-old way of life.

Crace was named winner of the 100,000-euro ($112,000) IMPAC Dublin award on Wednesday.

"Harvest" is set in an English village over several days in which a stable rural life is destroyed forever.

Crace said he was delighted to be included "in the distinguished and 20-year-long list of fiction honored by this truly international and discriminating award."

Run by Dublin's public libraries, the prize has one of the widest fields of any literary award. It is open to novels published in English, including works in translation.

"Harvest" was chosen by a panel of judges from 142 titles nominated by libraries in 114 cities.
