Wisconsin man charged in crash that killed 2 bicyclists
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- A 20-year-old South Milwaukee man is charged with reckless homicide in a crash that killed two bicyclists in Muskego earlier this month.
Brett Hartley was charged Thursday with two felony counts of second-degree reckless homicide.
WISN-TV reports that according to the complaint, Hartley told police he had been up for 24 hours without sleep before the June 6 crash.
Forty-five-year-old Paul Brown of Franklin and 54-year-old Anthony Oliver of Oak Creek were riding bicycles on State Highway 36 when they were hit. Police say Brown died at the scene and Oliver died at a hospital.
Investigators believe that Hartley crossed into the right pedestrian lane and struck the bicyclists from behind.
Hartley is scheduled to make his initial appearance Friday. Online court records do not list a defense attorney.
