Green Bay mulls ban on drones flying over public event

Posted:

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Officials in Green Bay are considering whether to ban aerial drones from flying over public events in the city.

Press-Gazette Media reports the ordinance would bar drones from events such as farmers markets, concerts or holiday celebrations. It's currently being drawn up by the city attorney's office.

Green Bay Police Capt. Jeremy Muraski says the drone ban was requested by the city's police department as a way to protect people from potential accidents. A city committee reviewed a draft of the ban earlier this month and showed support for barring drones from large events.

Drone users have called the proposed ban unnecessary and say it could prevent photographers and organizers from capturing images and video of events.
