Another top Canadian minister says he's leaving politics

Posted:

Another prominent member of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government will not seek re-election in Parliament in October. It's a blow to the Conservatives, who have been in power since 2006.

Industry Minister James Moore made the announcement Friday. He had been considered a candidate to one day replace Harper.

He joins Justice Minister Peter MacKay and former Foreign Minister John Baird as senior cabinet ministers not seeking re-election.

Harper's government has a majority of the seats in Parliament, but some analysts predict that will change in October's elections. It is expected to be Harper's last campaign.

Moore cites health problems of his son as the reason not to seek re-election. His son has a form of skeletal dysplasia that requires extensive care.
