UPDATE: Man suspected in Friday officer shooting captured

MILWAUKEE (WISN)--Milwaukee police say a man who shot a Wauwatosa police detective Friday is now in custody.

Deputy Inspector Steve Basting told our sister station WISN 12 News that Najee Harmon is in police custody as of Saturday around 1:08 p.m.

Police will hold a news conference at 3 p.m.

Harmon, 20, is believed to have shot a plain clothed Wauwatosa detective on the north side of Milwaukee Friday morning. Two detectives and an officer from Wauwatosa following up on a robbery investigation. They reportedly encountered Harmon, who shot at the officers.

One detective was injured in the exchange. He is hospitalized at Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Authorities are searching for a 20-year-old man suspected in the shooting and wounding of a suburban Milwaukee police officer.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said Friday night that the suspect is also wanted in an armed robbery earlier in the week. He warned that the suspect is armed and dangerous.

Three Wauwatosa police officers were investigating a burglary Friday morning and confronted a man in a car in a Milwaukee apartment parking lot.

The suspect opened fire and at least one officer shot back. A 52-year-old plain-clothed detective, who has 25 years of service, was hit once. The suspect ran away, and Flynn said there's no indication that the suspect was hurt.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said the detective was in serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.
