Police: Ex-Brewer killed in murder-suicide

PEARLAND, Texas (AP) -- Authorities say former Major League Baseball player Darryl Hamilton has been killed in a murder-suicide at a suburban Houston home.

Police say Hamilton was found Sunday after he was fatally shot at the home in the community of Pearland.

Police Lt. Patrick Savage says an initial investigation determined Hamilton was shot several times and that a woman in the home died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was identified as Monica Jordan.

Hamilton played 13 seasons in the majors before retiring in 2001, and the standout center fielder was part of the 2000 New York Mets team that went to the World Series. He also played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1988 and again from 1990-1995. He was currently working as an analyst for the MLB Network.

Brewers President Doug Melvin released a statement saying in part, "all of us are stunned and saddened with the news of this horrible tragedy, something that is impossible for us to even begin to comprehend."

Melvin added, "Our thoughts and prayers go to Darryl's family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Darryl was a wonderful player for our organization, but more importantly, he was a true gentleman and a great friend to many here."

Police say a 14-month old child of Hamilton and Jordan was found unharmed at the home.
