New trooper contract calls for 3 percent raises

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker's administration and the state troopers' union have negotiated a new contract that calls for 3 percent raises.

The Legislature's Joint Committee on Employee Relations rejected a plan in March that called for a 17 percent pay raise. The deal released Monday calls for a 3 percent raise for the year that ended in June 2014 with a lump sum payment for all hours dating back to June 2013. It also calls for a 3 percent raise for the year that ends this June 30 with a lump sum payment for all hours dating back to the end of June 2014. Troopers' health insurance contributions would increase, in some cases by hundreds of dollars.

The employee relations committee is expected to hold a hearing on the contract Tuesday.
