2nd Ebola case declared in Liberia as health workers protest

Posted:

Liberian officials have confirmed a second Ebola case in the same town where the disease was detected on a corpse about seven weeks after the country was declared Ebola-free.

Health Minister Bernice Dahn and deputy minister Tolbert Nyenswah confirmed the second case on Wednesday. Nyenswah, also head of the country's Ebola response, said the infected person has been moved to Monrovia. He said the person came from Nedowein, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of the capital, where days earlier a corpse was found to have Ebola.

Witnesses said Wednesday that Ebola treatment center workers stormed the Ministry of Health in eastern Monrovia demanding hazard benefits they said haven't been paid since the May 9 Ebola-free declaration.
