Walker calls Obama's overtime plan "empty political rhetoric"

MADISON (WAOW) – Governor Scott Walker says President Barack Obama's overtime pay proposal is “empty political rhetoric.”

The president is visiting Wisconsin to lay out his plan, which would give a pay increase to some 5 million Americans.

Currently, salaried workers who earn more than $23,660 per-year are not eligible for overtime.

In Obama's proposal, all salaried workers who earn less than $50,440 per-year would be eligible for overtime if they work more than 40 hours in a week.

“The president's effort is a political pitch but the reality is this will lead to lower base pay and benefits and will cut workers' hours and flexibility in the workplace,” Walker said in a statement.

The statement comes the same day Walker is expected to file for presidential candidacy.
