Volunteer dog handlers join search for missing doctor

EPHRAIM, Wis. (AP) -- Volunteer dog handlers are helping sheriff's officials search for a missing doctor in Door County.

Authorities say 63-year-old Jeffrey Whiteside, of Grand Chute, has been missing since June 29 when he walked away from the marina in Ephraim after a disagreement with his wife.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Pat McCarty said Friday that concern for Whiteside's well-being increases with the passage of time. Whiteside and his family have a vacation home and boat slip in Ephraim. McCarty says officers have gone door-to-door in Ephraim and have searched the shoreline and the water. A Department of Natural Resources airplane has also been used in the search.

Whiteside is a physician at Fox Valley Pulmonary Medicine. He also serves as secretary for the ThedaCare Board of Trustees.
